Bronze Casting Demonstrations
June 14 | 1:00 pm - 4:00 pm
$25
Andrew DeVries, the award-winning sculptor renowned for his graceful depictions of ballet dancers, will demonstrate the ancient process of lost wax bronze casting during four exclusive Saturday afternoon Open Studios at River Studios. DeVries, one of the few artists in the U.S. who not only creates but also casts his own works in bronze, is celebrated worldwide for capturing the pure essence of movement in his sculptures. During each event, he will guide participants through the intricate process of bronze casting—from the original clay model to its final transformation into a striking bronze sculpture. This behind-the-scenes look into the artist’s process is a unique opportunity to learn about the techniques that have been passed down for millennia. After the demonstration, guests can take a guided Sculpture Trail tour through River Studios’ wildflower meadow and shaded groves, where more than 40 up to life size bronze sculptures are installed. The tour is further enhanced by poetry from various writers, offering a thought-provoking experience. The tour concludes in the DeVries Fine Art International gallery, with wine and refreshments and an unveiling of his latest creation. Limited to 12 attendees.
