ArtWeek Berkshires returns just in time for spring

Spring in New England can be as sunny and colorful as it can sometimes be soggy and gray, but one way to ensure vibrancy regardless of fickle weather is to experience ArtWeek Berkshires, a county-wide celebration of all things creative by local artists. The annual 10-day event has moved permanently from fall to spring – this year the festival takes place May 17-27, 2024. Here are a few of the ways to take part in ArtWeek.

See the Art Where It’s Made

One of the most unique aspects of ArtWeek Berkshires is the Open Studio series, where artists invite the public into their creative spaces to experience the process behind the finished product. It’s a chance to see the work up close and personal and talk to the creator about inspirations, mediums, and more. Check out one of the following and explore all Open Studio events here.

• Exploring Perspectives is a student art show at the Welles Gallery at the Lenox Library. Students are welcome to use all mediums.
• More than 30 artists will show work at the Eclipse Mill in Spring FORWARD. You will see paintings, drawings, sculpture, pottery, jewelry, poetry, collage, photography, printmaking, poetry, and more.
• Visit Greylock WORKS to see creativity, innovation, positive energy, and collaboration in action. Featured studios include Douglas Gilbert, Eric Reinemann, Railroad Street Collective, Berkshire Catering Co, 328North Studio, and Hybl Fannin Design.
• Bernd and Susan Handau are well-known abstract artists who recently relocated from the Tahoe Region in Nevada. Susan will demonstrate her layering techniques and answering questions about her other artistic methods.

Take a Creative Tour Through the Berkshires

Don’t let a drive stop you from enjoying creative experiences in all areas of the county. From tip to tail you can traverse the Berkshires in about 90 minutes. Here are a few events, north to south, that will take you on an arty tour during ArtWeek!

• LAPINcontemporary presents a solo exhibition of works by Irish painter and musician Karl Mullen, featuring paintings created with the artist’s distinct approach sing a variety of media and diverse methods of applying them. Northern Berkshires.
• “Pondering Environmental Anxieties” at Future Lab(s) Gallery in North Adams, represents two artists’ impressions of what is happening while expressing their concerns for our planet. Come realize your own interpretation to these shared anxieties. Northern Berkshires.
• Janet Pumphrey Gallery in Lenox offers a unique view into imagined cities, impressionist flowers, and more. Her work moves beyond the inherent realism in traditional photography to see the world in a new and more creative way. Central Berkshires.
• At The Birch Festival join Rachel Barker for a workshop linking the Soldier’s Tale to the archetypal elements of the Tarot. Central Berkshires.
• Lovers of whimsy will adore Hoffman Pottery. Come meet Elaine Hoffman and talk to her about her works that “dance with energy.” She’s having a sale so you just might find a steal as a souvenir! Southern Berkshires.
• Come learn about fine woodturning with Lou Wallach. He’ll be available for Q&A and you can ask about lessons. Southern Berkshires.
