George Schuller at The Mount

Performing Arts & Entertainment

August 28 | 5:30 pm - 7:30 pm

Composer, bandleader, drummer, and producer, George Schuller, is a lifelong musician. Born in New York, he spent his childhood in Boston where he received his BA in jazz performance from the New England Conservatory of Music. In 1984, he founded Orange Then Blue, a highly acclaimed 12-piece orchestra. A decade later, Schuller moved to Brooklyn, playing with numerous prominent musicians of the New York downtown scene. In the late-90s, he led the Schulldogs, a creative jazz quartet and, in 2004, released his first solo album, JigSaw (482 Music). For the next decade, Schuller recorded with numerous groups and was a touring member of the Michael Musilliami Trio. He also debuted his own trio, releasing Life’s Little Dramas (Fresh Sound/New Talent). Shiller’s longest-standing ensemble has been Circle Wide, and between 2013-18, Schuller toured internationally with legendary alto saxophonist Lee Konitz Quartet. In 2018, he produced a film, Modern Jazz Quartet: From Residency to Legacy.
