While the Berkshires may be best known for arresting natural beauty and award-winning cultural attractions, the region also boasts an array of shopping experiences that will add variety to your itinerary. Our upscale boutiques offer unique and often handmade finds, while the bargain hunters in your group will delight in digging for treasure at resale and antique shops.
Sold all across the country, the Berkshires is home to a very special Yankee Candle Company location just outside southern Berkshires in Deerfield. This is a perfect spot for your group to peruse an assortment of scented candles, dinnerware, home décor, toys, gifts, and garden items. Your group will want to take a break from shopping to catch indoor snowflakes at the Bavarian Village and snack on something sweet. The Berkshires is also home to Anne Selke’s upscale textile companies – The Outlet at Pine Cone Hill and Annie Selke Lenox. Visit the Outlet for incredible savings on bedding, rugs, and apparel, and if your group is in the market for jewelry, tabletop items, art, pet accessories, and more, make sure to pop into her Lenox shop.
Another great stop for groups is MASS MoCA’s expansive gift shop where you’ll find one-of-kind toys, art supplies, clothing, and gifts like sassy soaps, socks, and aprons. (Stay for the boundary-defying, world renowned museum exhibits.) Afterward, your group can walk across MoCA’s campus and step into ROAM, an African photography gallery and fair trade gift shop next to Bright Ideas Brewing (another fun stop). The shop showcases artisanal jewelry, crafts, artwork, and more. If your group is willing to travel a little further north, visit Bennington Potters, a home style store specializing in locally-made pottery for more than 70 years where you’ll find tableware, home accessories, furniture, and art.
If your group is shopping at the other end of the Berkshires, in south county, you’ll find fine Asian art imports at Asia Barong in Great Barrington, a fun and unusual experience that is a mix between museum and art gallery. Beautiful ethnographic art, sculpture, musical instruments, puppets, and jewelry from around the world fill the store and outdoor yards. (Plus, they ship!) Down the street from Asia Bargon, your group can shop for bargains on women’s apparel at Catwalk Boutique, an upscale resale shop supporting Berkshire Humane Society, a local animal shelter. Unlike thrift stores, Catwalk offers high-quality fashion brands in excellent condition. Shoppers have been known to find designer Miyake bags, vintage Louis Vuitton coats, and like-new Coach belts and wallets for steep discounts at both the Great Barrington and Lenox locations.
Does your group consist of outdoor enthusiasts? Visit the Arcadian Shop in Lenox, which has outfitted the Berkshires for over 30 years with outdoor gear and clothing, high-quality footwear, and travel accessories. (The shop also offers four-season rentals of bikes, kayaks, skis, and snowshoes, and shares a parking lot with Kennedy Park where your group can trek 15 miles of trails.)
No matter where you shop in the Berkshires, you’re guaranteed to find that unique something that fits your style and budget.
