General Dynamics Mission Systems is hiring a Mechanical Manufacturing Engineer.

Basic Qualifications

Requires a bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering or a related science, engineering or mathematics field. Also requires 2+ years of job-related experience or a master’s degree. Agile experience preferred.

Clearance Requirements

Department of Defense Secret security clearance is required within a reasonable period of time. Applicants selected will be subject to a U.S. Government security investigation and must meet eligibility requirements for access to classified information. Due to the nature of work performed within our facilities, U.S. citizenship is required.

Role and Position Objectives

As a Mechanical Manufacturing Engineer in Pittsfield, Massachusetts, you’ll be a member of a highly motivated cross-functional team responsible for overcoming daily production challenges and continuously delivering on commitments.

You are encouraged to apply if you have the knowledge and skills to develop, implement, and maintain methods, operation sequence, and processes in the manufacturing or fabrication of parts, components, sub-assemblies, and final assemblies.

In this position, the Mechanical Manufacturing Engineer will develop strong communications with internal teams to estimate manufacturing costs, determine time standards, and make recommendations for tooling and process requirements of new or existing product lines. At GDMS, we continually seek ways to develop and improve manufacturing methods utilizing our team’s knowledge of product design, materials and parts, fabrication processes, tooling and production equipment capabilities, assembly methods, and quality control standards.

Primary responsibilities will include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Generate assembly, test, and inspection instructions for manufacturing and repair processes.
  • Perform root cause analysis on nonconforming material and develop detailed instruction for rework.
  • Develop and enhance assembly aids to improve product quality, product consistency, and reduce build times.
  • Read and comprehend both electrical schematics and mechanical drawings as well as possessing working knowledge of manufacturing principles, tooling, equipment, and materials.
  • Manage time throughout the day between working directly on the manufacturing floor and working in an office environment.
  • Communicate effectively across multiple departments of the company (assemblers, testers, inspectors, material planners, quality, project leads, shop floor supervisors, design engineering, etc.).
  • Implement operational improvement processes to improve product quality, consistency, and/or reduce production time.

What You Bring To The Table

  • A bachelor’s degree in manufacturing, industrial engineering, a related specialized area/field, or equivalent experience.
  • Clear understanding of manufacturing engineering concepts, principles, and theories.
  • Clear understanding with manufacturing processes and electrical/mechanical components, systems, and applications.

Workplace Options

This position is fully on-site where you will be part of the Pittsfield, Massachusetts manufacturing team.

Target salary range: USD $86,471.60/Yr. – USD $95,929.40/Yr. This estimate represents the typical salary range for this position based on experience and other factors (geographic location, etc.). Actual pay may vary. This job posting will remain open until the position is filled.
