Essential Job Functions

BCC’s culinary arts programs have a long and successful history. BCC just rebuilt the teaching kitchen and relaunched a new certificate in culinary arts. We are seeking an Assistant Professor of Culinary Arts who can teach a variety of courses in culinary arts and related areas of food and beverage production to prepare students for work in the culinary industry. The typical workload is 15 credit hours of instruction each semester. In addition to teaching, the faculty member will advise students, assist in student recruitment and program maintenance and development, engage in college service, and expand educational partnerships with local restaurants, resorts, farms, and similar food service operations.

We are looking for a candidate who enjoys providing students with a professional perspective built on work experience in the field and appreciates the diversity of the community college population. The ideal candidate is a collaborative colleague who enjoys sharing their enthusiasm, expertise, and experience in the culinary field. Faculty members typically provide 15 credit hours of instruction each semester. Non-instructional college-service work may include community outreach, grant writing, committee work, and advising students.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree required with at least two years of relevant instructional experience in culinary arts or food services; master’s degree preferred.
  • Candidates with non-traditional educational backgrounds will be considered.
  • A strong commitment to student-centered education and to learning and applying evidence-based teaching methodology.
  • Instructional experience in culinary arts, food and beverage production, or related fields. Prior community college experience is valued.
