General Description
General Dynamics Mission Systems is hiring an Advanced Guidance and Navigation Systems Engineer.
Basic Qualifications
Requires a bachelor’s degree in systems engineering or a related science, engineering, or mathematics field. Also requires five or more years of job-related experience; or a master’s degree plus three years of job-related experience. Agile experience preferred. Must have experience with Kalman Filtering.
Clearance Requirements
Department of Defense Secret security clearance is required within a reasonable period of time. Applicants selected will be subject to a U.S. Government security investigation and must meet eligibility requirements for access to classified information. Due to the nature of work performed within our facilities, U.S. citizenship is required.
Key Responsibilities
The Advanced Guidance and Navigation Systems Engineer will work within a systems team performing analysis, design, implementation, and test activities as part of a guidance system development effort. Additional tasks may include support of on-going Internal Research & Development (IRAD) activities. IRAD tasks are related to activities in our Advanced Guidance Lab (AGL) and include navigation concepts, technologies, Position Navigation and Timing (PNT) tools, and lab infrastructure. The selected candidate should also have good oral and written communications skills, perform work assignments under minimal supervision, and support frequent communications within, and across, Integrated Product Teams.
Additional Responsibilities
Must demonstrate a scientific background, an understanding of Navigation principles, experience with MATLAB, engineering systems, and the ability to further advance GDMS technology.
Qualifications
Candidates must have experience with:
- Testing of GPS/Inertial Navigation Systems (INS).
- Alternate navigation sensors/techniques.
- Sensor fusion in support of alternate navigation solutions.
- Simulation and modelling experience.
- Estimation theory, filtering, and data reduction.
- Candidates must demonstrate passion for innovation, a sophisticated understanding of various engineering systems, and the ability to further advance General Dynamics Mission Systems technology.
- Operations of basic laboratory environments and equipment.
- Deliver innovative, flexible, and integrated solutions to meet customers changing business needs.
- Support and engage in programs, projects, and practices behind the General Dynamics Mission Systems culture and strategy, and comply with all policies and procedures.
- Follow industry and department trends and developments to ensure General Dynamics Mission Systems services are consistent with, and/or superior to, industry best practices.
The preferred candidate should have some or all of the following basic qualifications:
- Understanding of GPS.
- Understanding of LabVIEW.
- Experience with Simulink.
- Knowledge and understanding of electronics and electrical systems.
- Model-Based Systems Engineering (MBSE) experience.
- Agile Method experience.
Familiarity with:
- Circuit design and analysis.
- Closed loop control.
- Mechanical design and drafting.
- Simulation and modelling experience.
- Cybersecurity.
- Embedded programming (C, C++, python, JavaScript) and microcontrollers.

Workplace Options

While on-site, you will be a part of the GDMS Pittsfield facility.
Target salary range: USD $112,829.60/Yr. – USD $125,170.40/Yr. This estimate represents the typical salary range for this position based on experience and other factors (geographic location, etc.). Actual pay may vary. This job posting will remain open until the position is filled.
