The Settlers
Arts and Culture, Performing Arts & Entertainment
April 11 | 7:15 pm - 9:00 pm
The film takes place in the early years of the 20th century and follows the journey of José Menéndez, a wealthy landowner, who hires three horsemen to mark out the perimeter of his property and open a route to the Atlantic Ocean across vast Patagonia. A New York Times Critic’s Pick, Felipe Gálvez’s first feature film depicts, unsparingly, the horrors of the genocide against the Selk’nam people and the violence of the exploitation and colonization of Tierra del Fuego. The film premiered at the 2021 Cannes Film Festival where it was named the winner of the Un Certain Regard FIPRESCI, and it was Chile’s official submission for the Best International Feature at the 2024 Academy Awards
