In the 1600s, it was the Tattooed Mohawks from New York State who traveled to the Boston Coast along The Mohawk Trail.  The leaders were tattooed.  Today, more women than men are tattooed along The Mohawk Trail.  There are also a few female tattoo artists in place in this region.  It is an art form.
