Ride the Thunder

Arts and Culture

August 27, 2023 - Daily

The Red Lion Inn and the Norman Rockwell Museum are co-presenting the exhibit, Ride the Thunder, curated by exhibit co-producer, Michael Cash. Ride the Thunder explores the iconic artworks of British Illustrator Ralph Steadman alongside the groundbreaking literary works of prolific writer Hunter S. Thompson, including never seen pieces.  The exhibition showcases pieces from The Kentucky Derby, the seminal article that resulted from Steadman and Thompson’s Louisville experience at the Kentucky Derby, alongside Fear and Loathing, a psychedelic journey to the heart of the American dream and what is generally considered the epitome of Gonzo Journalism. A collection of Steadman and Thompson’s personal fax exchanges over the span of fifteen years will offer a glimpse into their long friendship. Original and never-before-seen artwork include brand-new, meticulously crafted portraits of cultural icons Post Malone and Bob Dylan, which serve as a testament to Gonzo’s pervasive influence on the modern rhythm of music and art.

A cartooned man in a colorful shirt and smoking a long cigarette, carrying an overloaded suitcase suggests the psychedelic journey of the American Dream.
