Chesterwood: Ice Cream Socials for Children
Arts and Culture, Family Friendly, Outdoor Event
June 22 | 3:00 pm - 4:00 pm
This summer, Chesterwood – the newly restored summer home and studio of American Renaissance sculptor Daniel Chester French – will revive a French family tradition with three Sunday afternoon Ice Cream Socials for Children to be held in the Studio Garden, in partnership with High Lawn Farm. Around 1900, Daniel and wife Mary French began holding annual ice cream socials in the garden for all the children in the neighborhood and their daughter Margaret, who would’ve been about ten years old. This summer, Chesterwood is bringing back this fun family tradition with three free, hour-long Ice Cream Socials for Children on Sunday, June 22; Saturday, July 26; and Sunday, August 24. The event will also include games and an outdoor sculpture detective scavenger hunt. All families with children are welcome to attend. Each Social begins at 3:00 pm. Ice cream will be provided by the beloved local establishment High Lawn Farm, a century-old, single-family-owned dairy farm located in the Berkshires. The flavor Black Raspberry Chocolate Chip, inspired by the French family’s tradition of enjoying berry and chocolate-filled desserts, will be served. Additionally, High Lawn Farm’s Vanilla, Chocolate, and Strawberry ice creams will be available. Please RSVP to rsvp@chesterwood.com
