Winter Wellness, Berkshire Style

As the crisp air moves in and the landscape transitions to greys and evergreens, the Berkshire region invites you to slow down, tune inward, and nourish yourself in deeply meaningful ways. This winter, we’re spotlighting wellness with a twist—mind, body, and spirit.

Elixirs

Sometimes wellness means shaking up your routine and finding new rituals of ease. For those open to exploring alternative modes of rejuvenation, a few Berkshire-area spots are doing just that.

Start off conveniently with Canna Provisions in Lee, just off the Mass Turnpike. Their wellness-oriented mindset and wide range of craft cannabis, edibles, and concentrates make them a thoughtful stop as you arrive.

In Sheffield, wander into The Pass, where you can explore elevated botanical options in a warm, inviting environment. For a spirited twist just down the road, check out Berkshire Mountain Distillers, with craft cocktails in their weekend tasting room. Take a taste of the Berkshires home with recipes from a special series of “Cultural Cocktails” dedicated to nonprofit organizations in the Berkshires. Gin & vodka meet the stories behind their spirits with the “Ventfort Vesper” while rum drives the legacy of Herman Melville in the “Implacable Sea” sipper.

In Richmond, drop by Balderdash Cellars, where the atmosphere—relaxed, cozy, communal—is part of the wellness equation. So are the Tollbooth Riesling and the Truth Serum Malbec!

When you’re looking for a social yet low-key setting, head to Bright Ideas Brewing (BYOF) on the MASS MoCA campus—cozy, communal, and perfect for connecting after you take in the incredible exhibitions, talks, and performances at the museum.

Wilding

Movement, fresh air, wide open spaces: the Berkshires deliver in spades when it comes to nature-based renewal.

Book a session with HUHT—a mobile sauna biz that literally brings the heat (and the cold plunge) to you. Whether you rent privately or drop into one of their community events, you’ll leave feeling more grounded and with a new friend or two.

If you’re ready for the crisp air, consider plotting a winter hike (and cider tasting) around the 200-acre Hilltop Orchards  in Richmond, or try exploring nature’s calm at Huttopia Berkshires in Hancock, where tiny cabins, quiet woods and star-filled nights awaits—just a  few frosty steps away from Jiminy Peak Mountain Resort

For a deluxe stay-and-reset option, Prospect Berkshires in Egremont offers small dwellings perched on a lake, complete with lakefront and Finnish saunas and a dedicated restaurant (the Cliff House) serving seasonal local fare like the Tivoli Farms mushroom “pot pie” and confit squash—pure Scandi comfort from the inside out.

The Soul

Wellness often means slowing down a bit and embracing the season’s quiet—and yes, cold–magic.

Visit Chesterwood, the Stockbridge home, studio and gardens of sculptor Daniel Chester French, and take in the “Christmas at Chesterwood” experience as the Gilded Age site is decorated in full style for the month of December.  Or escape once again to the outdoors, and enjoy NightWood, a fully immersive experience on the grounds of The Mount in Lenox, which blends music, theatrical lighting, and scenic elements to create a meditative homage to the natural world. And if you’d like an even closer commune with the natural world, stop by the Berkshire Farm Sanctuary in Peru, where you can say “hello” to Persephone the sheep, Milady the pig, Cecil the goat, and a whole crew of other rescued critters who call the sanctuary home.

The Quiet Body

When the pace slows and you turn inward, tending to the quiet body is a true act of healing.

Relax deeply at InTouch Massage & Day Spa in Williamstown, where you can indulge in spa treatments like an seaweed body wraps, facials, aroma therapy, stone massage, or the outdoor riverside hot tub. Flow into a yoga session or residential retreat at Kripalu Center for Yoga & Health—a Berkshire icon of mindfulness-based education and renewal. For a luxury stay-and-reset, treat yourself to Miraval Berkshires, where holistic programs, nature immersion, and quiet luxury come together for deep relaxation.

Winter in the Berkshires isn’t about hibernation—it’s about intentional slowing and discovering unexpected wells of strength. And hopefully, peace.
