Free Community Screening: Glory
Performing Arts & Entertainment
July 6 | 3:00 pm - 5:00 pm
In honor of the two new murals Glory of the Berkshires and Pride of the Westside in Pittsfield, Berkshire Theatre Group and West Side Legends invite you to a special free public screening of Glory (1989) at The Colonial Theatre. Following the film, community leaders and members of West Side Legends will share insights about the individuals portrayed and the powerful significance of their stories. Glory is an epic historical war drama directed by Edward Zwick that tells the story of the 54th Massachusetts Infantry Regiment—one of the first African American units to fight in the American Civil War. Featuring standout performances from Matthew Broderick as Colonel Robert Gould Shaw and Denzel Washington, Cary Elwes, and Morgan Freeman as members of the regiment, the film brings to life the courage and sacrifice of these soldiers. Based on historical accounts and personal letters, Glory follows the regiment from its formation through their heroic assault at the Second Battle of Fort Wagner, offering a profound tribute to their enduring legacy.
