“Anyone who thinks fallen leaves are dead has never watched them dancing on a windy day.” – Shira Tamir
Autumn is here, and fall foliage is back! The 65th Annual Fall Foliage Parade in North Adams beckons in the season on Sunday, October 3, 2021 at 1:00pm. This year’s whimsical theme is Games, Movies & Takeout! Come help celebrate the many ways family and friends have maintained a sense of normalcy and fun during the pandemic, and honor the Regional Emergency Planning Committee Northern Berkshire COVID Operations Center, whose dedicated team has been selected to be the parade’s Grand Marshals. The Fall Foliage Parade is a great way to experience our unique and diverse community.
Get to know other Berkshire communities when you walk or bike the 12.5 mile Ashuwillticook Rail Trail. This old railroad track, converted into a paved, level path, runs through the towns of Cheshire, Lanesborough, and Adams. Suitable for all ages and abilities, the trail offers exquisite views of fall foliage at its most dramatic. Stop for a picnic, indulge in bird-watching or fishing, or just take in the autumn colors!
Speaking of autumn colors, see their glorious reflection in the pristine waters of the Housatonic River when you treat yourself to an excursion with Berkshire Canoe Tours. These family- friendly, guided canoe and kayak tours provide general instruction for first-time paddlers as well as fascinating information about the plethora of animal and plant life in and around the river. You’ll definitely want to bring your camera! Each two-hour tour leaves from Decker Boat Ramp in Lenox. Advanced reservations are preferred, but if you’re feeling spontaneous, BCT makes every effort to accommodate last-minute requests.
If you’re feeling adventurous and longing for magnificent, birds-eye views of the panoply of fall colors, charter a scenic flight with Berkshire Aviation Enterprise at the Great Barrington Airport. Book an hour or half-hour trip. Know someone with an autumn birthday? Give them a memory they’ll always cherish with a gift certificate to experience the beauty of the Berkshires fall foliage in their own private aerial tour!
Whether by land, water, or air, don’t miss your chance this season to explore and celebrate the unique autumn beauty of the Berkshires!
