Marsha Recknagel, a collage artist, painter, and writer will open to visitors her newly renovated barn, a work of art on its own, part treehouse, part cabin in the woods. Originally from Louisiana, Recknagel’s work contains imagery of the unique culture of the Deep South; she combines imagery of spirituality, mystery and magic. From the landscapes, the swamps and coastal areas, to the shrines and altars she saw throughout her childhood, there is a definite resonance of the mixture of voodoo and Catholicism, dreamy iconography of gris-gris and southern gardens filled with camellias and wisteria bursting over wrought-iron fences.
