Wellness comes in many forms, especially for New Englanders who battle the varying weather patterns of cold along with long hours of darkness. So, when it comes to taking care of oneself, the remedy can vary from cold dips to steam rooms (or most likely both), and from hot drinks to deep meditation. The mind and body need a reset during the winter months, and the Berkshires is known for its commitment to wellness of all kinds and colors.

Remember that wide-ranging definition of what’s good for you? The Berkshire region has been at the very front of the line when it comes to the “green rush” of legal cannabis grows and dispensaries, both medical and recreational. Enjoy the curated, museum-like vibe of Farnsworth Fine Cannabis in Great Barrington, which offers luxurious topicals, concentrates, edibles, bud and other products. Just south of that, on Rte. 7 in Sheffield, swing by The Pass, a vertically integrated cultivar, producer, and retailer of cannabis products including a diverse strain library as well as CBD products. On busier days, you may find a food truck conveniently parked nearby for a quick bite while you consider your order. Further north, Temescal Wellness in Pittsfield offers an impressive selection of pre-rolls from 1620 Labs, Apotho, and Coastal Healing. In Adams, Clear Sky has a droolworthy chocolate selection (flavors like Maple Bacon, S’mores, Peanut Smooches) and infused bevvies.

While you’re responsibly enjoying your cannabis products, let your mind and body relax further in one of the Berkshires’ award-winning wellness retreats and day spas. Kripalu Center for Yoga & Health, which is surrounded by mountains and hiking trails, is a perfect place to explore deeper with programs and immersive workshops like The Sovereign Soul and Awakened Life. For a mix of adventure, glamour, and world class spa treatments, visit Miraval Berkshires in Lenox. Enjoy activities like hatchet throwing, pottery, and sound meditation, as well as luxurious spa treatments including reiki, hot stone massage, probiotic facials, and so much more, including an enchanted dining experience at 1894 Restaurant, located onsite at the stunning (and decorated for the holidays) Wyndhurst Mansion.

For those looking for one-day wellness to round out your winter getaway, the region offers a plethora of options ranging from luxury day spas to one-hour yoga and healing classes. InTouch Massage & Day Spa in Williamstown offers body treatments, facials, and an outdoor, riverside hot tub to warm weary bones. You can also book a luxurious treatment at blu Salon & Spa in Pittsfield. The cheery, sunny studio offers an array of indulgences from hair and skin care to massage and body work. Or maybe a pre-dinner reset is what’s needed, in which case Berkshire Yoga Dance & Fitness is just the place. This iconic studio, located on North Street in Pittsfield, meets visitors where they are with all levels flow yoga, barre classes, Pilates, and Zumba. On Friday nights, the 60-minute sound bath meditation is a must-try. If your path to wellness includes highly-specialized, private attention, Gotham Wellness in Great Barrington is the place (just read the press and the reviews!) for Acupuncture, including Aculectrics℠ Cosmetic Acupuncture Facials for radiant health in 90 minutes or less.

As you wend your way through the region, fully blissed out on mind and body healing, be sure to stop by the newly opened Wander Berkshires café and dark room, which has fast-become a sanctuary and creative event space dedicated to being a community hub. And don’t leave without trying the butterfly tea. It is bright purple, and it will heal you from the inside out.

No matter how you choose to spend your time of renewal in the Berkshires this winter, you’re sure to leave refreshed and inspired to return again and again. Start planning your wellness itinerary today!
