The Bounty Around Us

Berkshire Farmers Markets are a Great Stop on Any Itinerary

This year, more than ever, farmers markets are enabling visitors to bring the incredible bounty of the Berkshires home.  As you plan your next Berkshire itinerary be sure you make a stop or two at one of our many farmers markets, it is a perfect way to end or open your groups day. So get off the bus and explore a delicious part of Berkshire life.

Unlike large or chain stores, the markets bring local produce, usually picked that day, directly from the farm to the visitors. They also offer a variety of packaged Berkshire food items that are perfect for visitors to take with them as Berkshire souvenirs or why not just sample a local pastry right then and there. Here is a list of just a few of the great markets we have from spring until fall. Want more info… visit our complete list of farmer’s markets.

The West Stockbridge Farmers Market has become an important part of the social life of the village and surrounding towns.  The operating hours of 3:00 PM to 7:00 PM on Thursdays were selected to accommodate working local residents as well as the diverse and extensive summer population.  From May 23rd until October 10th the Market is open on Merritt Green at Harris Street in the center of the village.  A wood oven producing wood-grilled gourmet pizzas makes it a destination spot for young families and workers heading home.  Local musicians entertain weekly; weekly games and contests are held; and monthly Special Event Markets including local artists, authors and craftsmen are planned.  SNAP, WIC, Senior Coupons, Credit Cards.

The oldest operating market in the Berkshires is the Williamstown Market, will be in its 29th year of operation in 2014.  At the base of Spring Street, the Market operates on Saturdays from 9:00 AM until 1:00 PM from May  to October.

Only slightly younger, the Great Barrington Farmers Market is will be entering its 23rd year and prides itself as being a 100% producer-only market.  Located at the Historic Train Station behind the Town Hall at the intersection of Taconic Avenue and Castle Street, the Market operates every Saturday from 9:00 AM to 1:00 PM, Mother’s Day weekend until the last weekend in October.  SNAP, WIC, Senior Coupons, Credit Cards.

At the other end of the spectrum, the newest market in the area is the Downtown Pittsfield Market, new this year.  With its catchy motto:  Get Fresh with Us!, it is a producers-only market that promises to be a lively, exciting venue to the Pittsfield social and commercial scenes.

In Lenox a lively market happens every Friday from 1:00 PM to 5:00 PM on the grounds of Shakespeare & Co. at 70 Kemble Street.  It runs May to October.  WIC, Senior Coupons.

It is our privilege to be surrounded by such incredible bounty and we are only too happy to share it with you and your group!  Farmers markets are a sure way liven up any itinerary and allow your customers time to enjoy our local flavors.
