Check in at TOURISTS Welcome, a 48-room hotel and riverside retreat on the scenic Mohawk Trail in North Adams, and you’ll find a classic mid-century roadside motor lodge reimagined with modern architecture and style. It seems they’ve thought of everything you might need or want for an amazing getaway. The food and drink feature locally-grown and sourced ingredients. Common areas inside and out invite you to gather for meals, cocktails, and live music. Another recently-restored gem on the Mohawk Trail is the Wigwam on the Western Summit. Even if you’re just passing through on your way to the route’s famous hairpin turn, stop in at the Wigwam store for a pour-over coffee and a home-baked treat to fuel the rest of your journey.

Visiting the southern Berkshires? Book a stay at rustic Race Brook Lodge in Sheffield, where the Appalachian Trail and a hike to a waterfall are steps away and Berkshire cultural attractions are close by. The expansive property is dotted with a variety of tranquil accommodations. It’s also home to the historic, candle-lit Stagecoach Tavern—a favorite dining spot for travelers and locals—and the Down County Social Club, a speakeasy-style music venue. This antique-filled, mid-1800s, four-season house rental has been completely restored by owner Margie Wilke, who lives in a separate building on the property. Minutes from Jacob Pillow’s and Otis Ridge Ski Area, you’re also a short drive to Tanglewood or to prime spots for hiking, fishing, boating, and swimming. Two restaurants and a pub are walkable from the house.

If you prefer a more central location with shops and cafes out the front door, The Barrington offers an intimate B&B experience in downtown Great Barrington.
