Live Music in the Berkshires – On the Road With Michelle

With the July 4th weekend just ahead of us, it’s hard to believe how much exceptional live music has already occurred this season in the Berkshires! We’ve seen Rosanne Cash at the Mahaiwe, the Indigo Girls at the Summer Sound Festival, and Wilco at MASS MoCA. Sheryl Crow, Diana Krall, Lady Gaga and Tony Bennett have already come and gone from Tanglewood. We’re off to a great start, and there’s plenty of punch still packed into this summer’s music scene for our visitors to enjoy.

Any night of the week, live music can be found in venues big and small. The bulk of Tanglewood’s season remains, and guests should not discount the possibility of simply attending a Saturday morning rehearsal with lawn ($13) and shed seats available ($22-$32). MASS MoCA’s Summer of Music continues with Toshi Reagon, Roomful of Teeth and of course, the Bang on a Can Marathon. In nearby Norfolk, CT, Infinity Music Hall has another stellar season planned, including Hot Tuna, Marshall Tucker Band and The Original Wailers.

Are your guests looking for something more intimate? Mr. Finn’s Cabaret at Barrington Stage offers everything from folk to jazz to swing in one hot nightspot. The Guthrie Center’s Troubadour Series includes Vance Gilbert, Christine Lavin, and The Grand Slambovians, to name just a few.

Plenty of cultural venues known best for their historic architecture and fine art collections are getting in on the game, too. The Mount is hosting Music After Hours on the Terrace every weekend in July and August. The Trustees of Reservations will present Naumkeag at Night on Thursday evenings, and Chesterwood’s “Chesterfest” has moved to Sunday evenings from July 19th through August 30th. All of these are great ways for travelers to fit more into their itinerary, outside of the typical hours for our museums and historic sites.

We’ve barely scratched the surface here, so to get a better sense of music options this summer, just go to our lists of July or August Music in the Berkshires. We’ll keep adding performances as their announced, so best to bookmark this link then search by date range or event type. Your guests will love you for it!
