Leah Thompson, BART Charter Public School
Posted on June 27, 2018Written by Lindsey Schmid

Leah Thompson grew up in the Berkshires, in the small community of Savoy. She left for college at the University of Massachusetts and then headed to New York City to begin her career. When she decided to leave the city, she returned to the Berkshires and plans to stay.
At age 36, Thompson says the Berkshires offer opportunities, especially for younger professionals, that wouldn’t be possible in a bigger city. Through her leadership roles in both community and business organizations in the Berkshires, for example, she has made significant contributions of her time and skills that have helped improve the quality of life in the area. In fact, Berkshire Magazine recognized Thompson in its annual “The Berkshire 25” list, honoring a select group of individuals throughout the county who are ‘dedicated, creative and influential.’
Although Thompson loves the natural beauty of the Berkshires and its cultural and other attractions, she notes that the region’s people are its most valuable asset and resource. “People who live here care about this place,” she says, “and it’s possible to see your work make a difference.”
