Lanesborough Feature

Posted on January 05, 2018Written by Lindsey Schmid

Outdoor enthusiasts have a special place in their hearts for the Berkshires, and those in the know head to Lanesborough to take advantage of a full range of options. From hiking to cycling, snowshoeing to xc skiing, this Berkshire town should serve as your next home-base for outdoor adventure.

Get in your exercise on the trail.Possibly the most family-friendly outdoor option in the region is the Ashuwillticook Rail Trail, which runs from Lanesborough north through Cheshire and Adams. Here you’ll find a wide berth to accommodate runners, walkers, bicycles, and rollerblades in the warmer months. Snowshoes and xc skis will make tracks in the winter.

Your crew will never forget the experience at Ramblewild, one of our newest outdoor attractions. Eight aerial obstacle courses packed with challenging elements like zip lines, rope ladders and high wires will get your blood pumping. Keep in mind that this venue offers hiking and snowshoeing trails as well, so if you’d rather keep your feet on the ground while others explore the treetop “trails”, you’ll have that option too!

Your Berkshire bucket list should include a stop at Balance Rock State Park to follow in the footsteps of curiosity seekers (including Herman Melville) of ages past. It’s a breathtaking sight, but don’t be nervous – it hasn’t budged in about 12,000 years.

The Berkshires boasts the highest peak in Massachusetts, which can be reached by car (in season) or on foot via a wide variety of trails to the top. As you head into the Mount Greylock State Reservation, be sure to stop in at the Visitor Center, located in Lanesborough. Their interpretive displays set the stage for the flora and fauna you’ll encounter in the park.

Take in the views on the lake.Lastly, Pontoosuc Lake offers year-round enjoyment. Take a dip or cruise around with a boat rental for the day, or tap into what has long been an ice-fishing destination, famous for its healthy supply of tiger muskies.

Your visit to Lanesborough may just get you thinking about ways to #liveBRK. When you’re ready to make the move we are here to help!
