In the Shadow of Mass MoCA, a Retro Inn is on Display

Take a seat in a rocking chair in the front of The Porches Inn at Mass MoCA, and you are looking right at the 19th century brick mill buildings that are now part of Mass MoCA. Only a narrow strip of the Hoosic River in this North Berkshires city separates inn guests from the exhibits.  The inn is a cluster of Victorian row houses painted red, sage, yellow, gray, blue, and pink, connected by two porches. These buildings are the homes of former mill workers, who could walk around the corner to their jobs. Originally duplexes, with two families in each, the houses have been converted into six buildings with 47 guest rooms and suites, decorated in retro-industrial and granny chic.
