Short days and long cold nights are no reason to long for summer. The Berkshires have a diverse selection of activities to enjoy after the sun goes down and many restaurants are ready to serve late diners who are out and about. We all need to dine and hibernating only works well for bears.
If you find yourself in the Northern part of the county you will be treated to scenic vistas. Mountains rise high around you and trails beckon year-round. While there, don’t miss dinner at Mezze Bistro + Bar in Williamstown. Mezze is known for its chic interiors and eclectic contemporary American cuisine. They serve locally distilled spirits, crafted cocktails, and small-batch microbrews as well as an extensive wine list including seasonal, small-production offerings. Serving until 10 PM on Fridays and Saturdays, Mezze serves their full menu as well as an interesting selection of small bite plates.
Another great stop is in Williamstown and it is Hops & Vines Beer Garden & Brasserie. At Hops & Vines you can choose to enter the pub side (Hops) for a more casual experience or a more upscale experience on the Vines side. Either way, you will be treated to a full-service restaurant featuring modern takes on comfort foods and classically inspired interpretations of a French brasserie. Serving until 11 PM Wednesday – Saturday, Hops & Vines has an extensive wine and craft beer selection, signature cocktails and a raw bar. Stop in for warm soft pretzels, burgers, wings or poutine. Their full menu includes locally sourced salads, vegetarian and local meat options. And desserts! Oh yes, the desserts…
Head down route 7 to Lanesbourgh and you’ll run into one of Berkshire County’s most popular restaurants. Ye Olde Forge, or “The Forge” as it’s called by the locals, is known for their extensive beer list and award winning wings. Food is served until 10 PM Sunday – Thursday and until 11 PM Friday – Saturday. A varied menu including specials, and a salad bar offer something for everyone, all served in a cozy cabin-like setting.
Moving to the center of the county, Pittsfield has many options to tempt you. District Kitchen + Bar, located right off the main street is a great stop for any appetite. The menu is divided by plate size – smalls, mids, bigs, sides, and desserts. Any combination is fine. You can stop in for a fun cocktail or glass of wine from their extensive list. The menu is inventive and includes meats, pasta, and vegetarian options. District is a walk-in restaurant so no reservations. The bar is open until midnight and the kitchen closes between 9 and 10 depending on need.
Another great option in downtown Pittsfield is Methuselah Bar & Lounge. The staff at Methuselah is friendly and eager to chat and share their latest craft cocktail. There are also great wine and beer selections which pair nicely with many of the menu items. Try their locally sourced offerings including warm olives, butternut tarts or a selection of tacos. Larger appetites will love the overstuffed sandwiches and entree salads. There is also a selection of meats or vegetarian/vegan offerings. Try mixing and matching your own cheese and charcuterie plate to share. The homemade desserts are worth the stop alone so you will want to save a little room. Methuselah serves until 10 PM.
Patrick’s Pub, also in Pittsfield, is a classic Irish Pub situated conveniently in the center of town on Park Square. Patrick’s has long been loved for their wings, nachos, sandwiches and entrees. They have a good selection of beers, including Guinness, on tap and wine and cocktails as well. They serve food Sunday – Thursday until 10:30 PM and Friday & Saturday until 11:30 PM You’ll find yourself surrounded by an affable crowd out for fun and good food in a casual, comfortable setting.
A little farther South, stop into Brava in Lenox. A popular night-time, European wine bar, Brava offers a menu of hot & cold tapas, pizzas, bruschetta, salads as well as craft beers & wine by the glass until midnight. Brava is small and intimate and perfect for dropping in after a movie or performance in the area.
