Workshop: Blacksmithing 101
September 21 @ 10:00 AM - 4:00 PM$150
In this intensive two-day workshop, participants learn basic blacksmithing skills by making several projects of their choice using traditional tools and techniques in a coal-fired forge. Begin by making several hooks to learn how to manage the forge fire, heat the stock, shape the steel with hammer and anvil, and finish. Next, move on to more advanced projects such as plant hangers, hearth or kitchen utensils, a candle sconce, or other project. This is a fun and fast-paced weekend requiring no experience—only a desire to learn. Note to students: Wear long pants (jeans), non-synthetic clothing, and closed-toed shoes; bring safety glasses and leather gloves (if you have them).
