OLLI: The Splendor of Schubert
February 27 @ 10:30 AM - 12:00 PM
An event every week that begins at 10:30 AM on Thursday, repeating until February 27, 2020
Franz Peter Schubert was an Austrian composer of the late Classical and early Romantic eras. Despite his short lifetime, he left us a great body of incredible music, including more than six hundred secular vocal works, seven complete symphonies, sacred music, operas, incidental music and a large repertoire of piano and chamber music. While alive, appreciation of Schubert’s music was limited to a small circle of admirers in Vienna, but interest in his work increased significantly in the decades following his death. We will explore him biographically and musically, and listen to many of his great compositions.
This course will be presented by Ken Stark.
Ken Stark is active in the Berkshires community, serving on the Board of Directors for 18 Degrees (formerly Berkshire Children and Families), the Berkshire Bach Society, and Berkshire Theatre Group, as well as the Advisory Committee for Kids4Harmony.
