Mahaiwe Presents: Inside the Bolshoi Ballet
June 7 @ 5:30 PM - 6:30 PMFREE
“Inside the Bolshoi Ballet,” a live conversation with Marina Harss and Norton Owen, will be held via Zoom, Sunday, June 7 at 5:30pm. Commemorating the 10th anniversary of the Bolshoi in Cinema broadcasts and the partnership with Jacob’s Pillow to introduce these screenings, Pillow Director of Preservation Norton Owen sits down with dance writer Marina Harss to get an exclusive look inside this fabled institution. Harss is currently at work on a book about choreographer Alexei Ratmansky, who was director of the Bolshoi from 2004 to 2008, which has provided her with rare behind-the-scenes access to the Bolshoi. This informal conversation will explore her insights and address questions from the audience.
Marina Harss is a writer, journalist, and critic based in New York City, writing on all aspects of dance, and occasionally on opera. Her writing appears regularly in The New York Times, The New Yorker, DanceTabs.com, Dance Magazine, and Pointe Magazine. Norton Owen is a curator, writer, and archivist. For more than 40 years, he has been associated with Jacob’s Pillow Dance Festival, where as Director of Preservation he oversees projects involving documentation, exhibitions, audience engagement, and archival issues, as well as the extensive online archives, podcasts, and more.
