Lights! Camera! Action! Walk the red carpet like a movie star when Now Playing: Festival of Trees 2016 opens at the Berkshire Museum on Friday, November 18, 2016, with a festive Premiere Party. Museum-goers will be able to enjoy the magnificent trees, on view to the public, from November 19, through December 31. Regarded by many as signaling the unofficial kickoff of the holiday season in the Berkshires, the Museum’s annual event will feature more than 100 trees, bedecked in film world finery, reflecting this year’s movie theme. The creative holiday trees are sponsored by businesses, schools, and community organizations in a true celebration of cinema, including film noir,sci-fi, action-adventure, Westerns, animation, and more. Are you ready for your close-up?
Visitors may encounter trees inspired by their favorite films. The organizations, businesses, and schools that participate come up with many innovative and original ways to decorate their movie-themed trees. This year, visitors can expect to see holiday trees that celebrate classics of the cinema, from High Noon to Star Wars, Casablanca to Jaws to the best of the Disney studios. The Festival of Trees is a significant fundraiser for Berkshire Museum every year, with the proceeds benefiting their education programs that provide more than 20,000 educational experiences each year.
In addition to the twinkling trees, visitors can learn about films made right here in the Berkshires, get a glimpse of favorite holiday movies, and pose in front of a Hollywood-style backdrop for photos. The Museum’s Little Cinema will also present special screenings of holiday classics in December. A schedule of special events, including a panel discussion and a holiday concert, are planned.
The Festive Premiere Party will be held Friday, November 18, from 5:30 to 7:30. It will be a family friendly movie-themed extravaganza! Be among the first to see the twinkling trees, sample delicious refreshments with Hollywood flair, take pictures in front of the “Hillywood” backdrop, and visit the mini screening room!
The 2016 Festival of Trees is proudly sponsored by Hill Engineers, Architects, Planners Inc.; Pittsfield Cooperative Bank; RBC Wealth Management; and Berkshire Magazine. Presenting partners for this year are the Berkshire International Film Festival and the Berkshire Film and Media Collaborative.
