Social entrepreneurship pioneer Laurie Lane-Zucker wants to turn the Berkshires in Massachusetts into a social enterprise/impact investing hub. Specifically, he ‘s trying to build what he calls a “public benefit enterprise zone”.
The idea is to take the concept of enterprise empowerment zones and shape it to fit incubating and accelerating impact businesses in the region. To that end, the center of activity would be a place called the Impact Entrepreneur Center for Social and Environmental Innovation. Much like Impact Hub NYC and other similar places, it would have co-working space, hold events for members and the public and offer regular mentoring to entrepreneurs. And it would attract educational, government, banking and other players, creating a new ecosystem.
