As interest in the painter Sir Lawrence Alma-Tadema (1836–1912) surges, the Clark offers new insight into one of his most successful and distinctive artistic endeavors—the design of a music room in the Greco-Pompeian style for the New York mansion of financier, art collector, and philanthropist Henry Gurdon Marquand (1819–1902).

Thursday afternoons in July and August, create your own canvas wall hanging inspired by the work of abstract expressionist painter, Helen Frankenthaler. Together we’ll experiment with the “soak stain” technique pioneered by Frankenthaler in her studio. Artmaking can be messy! Art project appropriate clothing encouraged. Free with admission.

On Tuesday afternoons in July and August, look at things from a different angle to create a unique work of cubist art. Considered one of the most important art movements of the 20th century, cubism brings different viewpoints together in the same picture, giving artworks a distinctive fragmented look. Located on the Fernandez Terrace, specially designed cubist drawing stations have all you need to experiment with this iconic style. Free with admission.

Join the Clark this summer for Crystal Clear, an acoustic concert series at Thomas Schütte: Crystal, Schütte’s site-specific installation on Stone Hill. Darling Valley’s unique blend of folk and indie-rock has a clear direction, despite—or maybe due in part to—the wide variety of instruments used.
