DAY 1

3:30pm Arrive at Mount Greylock for Hike
Mt. Greylock State Reservation, Adams, MA
At 3,491 feet, Mount Greylock is the highest point in Massachusetts. Rising above the surrounding Berkshire landscape, dramatic views of 60-90 miles distant may be seen. It became Massachusetts’ first wilderness state park, acquired by the Commonwealth in 1898, to preserve its natural environment for public enjoyment. Wild and rugged yet intimate and accessible, Mount Greylock rewards the visitor exploring this special place of scenic and natural beauty.

5:30pm Dinner at Bascom Lodge

Bascom Lodge is a rustic stone and wood lodge that was built by the Civilian Conservation Corps in the 1930’s to provide accommodations for hikers, vacationers, and nature enthusiasts. The large dining room with its high ceiling and hand-cut oak beams which provides an ideal atmosphere for a meal. An enclosed porch with wraparound windows overlooks the finest views in the Berkshires. The stone fireplaces create a relaxing setting.

7:30pm Return to Hotel

DAY 2
11:00am Stop & Shop at the Arcadian Shop

12:30pm Explore Lenox and Lunch on Your Own

3:00pm Arrive at Pleasant Valley Wildlife Sanctuary for Walk

Pleasant Valley Wildlife Sanctuary has a thriving beaver population which is one of the many fascinating features of this sanctuary. When you walk along Yokun Brook, take note of the “lodges” of tree branches and mud, where these nocturnal creatures spend their days. Salamander migrations are a major spring event along West Mountain Road. Seven miles of trails that wind through hardwood forest, meadows, wetlands, and along the slopes of Lenox Mountain make this site an excellent location for hiking.

6:30pm Picnic and Concert at Tanglewood

Tanglewood is the summer home of the Boston Symphony Orchestra and the host of summer music education centers. Located on the expansive campus are The Serge Koussevitzky Music Shed, the Boston Symphony Orchestra performance venue designed by local Stockbridge engineer Joseph Franz in 1938, and Seiji Ozawa Hall, built in 1994. Today Tanglewood annually draws over 350,000 visitors. Each season offers not only a vast quantity of music but also a vast range of musical forms and styles, all of it presented with a regard for artistic excellence that makes the festival unique.

11:00am Tour of the Berkshire Botanic Garden

Called “a glistening community gem” by Virginia Small, author of the book Great Gardens of the Berkshires, the Garden’s mission is to fulfill the community’s need for information, education and inspiration concerning the art and science of gardening and the preservation of our environment. They are among the oldest gardens in the US and have been expanded over the years in breadth and variety through a series of bequests and major gifts. Our collections emphasize plants that are indigenous to or thrive in the Berkshires.

1:30pm Explore Stockbridge and Lunch on Your Own

3:00pm Depart the Berkshires
