Lecture: An Orientalist Gesamtkunstwerk?

In this lecture Robert Sterling Clark Professor Mary Roberts reconsiders the role of Islamic art in this semi-public interior, assessing how diverse sources from around the Mediterranean (including the Arab-inspired twelfth-century Norman palace of La Zisa in Palermo and historic tomb interiors in the former Ottoman capital Bursa) came to inspire this modern interior. Concert: Chamber Orchestra of Williams

The Chamber Orchestra of Williams, an all-student, flexible instrumentation chamber ensemble dedicated to innovative programming, presents a multidimensional performance experience featuring music by Williams College Professor Zachary Wadsworth alongside Aaron Copland’s Appalachian Spring. Combining this music with poetry and art to create an immersive experience, this concert is dedicated to fostering of community by engagement in the arts. Free. 7pm – 8:30pm.

Tanglewood Walking Tours

Free walking tours of the Tanglewood campus last approximately one hour and include visits to the Koussevitzky Music Shed, Ozawa Hall, other music facilities, the Visitor Center history rooms, and more. Experienced volunteer guides discuss the historical background of Tanglewood, the Boston Symphony Orchestra, and the Tanglewood Music Center. Tours are offered Tuesday, 1:30pm; Wednesday, 10:30am; Saturday, 1:30pm, and Sunday; 12:30pm (Sunday tours open to ticket-holders only).
