Where To Go When You’re Done With The Snow

By Gina Wagner

The lift tickets are purchased; rooms, lessons and rentals are all booked; and you’re ready to venture to the Berkshires to indulge in hours of delight on the slopes.  But after all of that skiing and riding, you’ll want to take some time to warm up, relax, and explore all that the Berkshires has to offer.  And since the Berkshires is home to some of New England’s best snow sports, area locales are also well-versed in providing a variety of fun ways to spend your time after a great day on the slopes. An added bonus:  some spots even offer skier discounts!

If food cravings have got your stomach talking, the Berkshires has a variety of dining options equipped to accommodate every taste bud.  Local and chain restaurants, cafes, and pubs all offer a great way to warm up and fill up. Arizona Pizza Company in Lenox offers a 15% discount to anyone with a Bousquet Mountain lift ticket from that day; a Catamount Mountain lift ticket or season pass gets you discounts at various nearby restaurants such as 10% off a meal at Great Barrington’s Mexican restaurant Xichotencatl or for great farm to table bbq tryout out Route 7 Grille; if you are wanting more Asian flavors try Bizen or The East both restaurants also offer a 10% discount with your lift ticket.  John Harvard’s Restaurant & Brewery at Jiminy Peak  in Hancock offers weekend musical entertainment along with appetizer and dinner specials such as $2 children’s meals from 4:00-6:00 pm.  Many restaurants and local bars also have offerings for those seeking interactive excitement like karaoke and trivia nights.

Feeling maxed out from your rigorous day on the slopes and would rather sit back, relax, and stuff your face with buttery popcorn? With everything from today’s latest flick to special showings of The Metropolitan Opera Live in HD, the Beacon Cinemas on North Street in Pittsfield is sure to please.  They even offer a selection of refreshing wines and beers to unwind during the movie.  And, each Tuesday evening, the Beacon offers tickets at the hugely-popular price of just $5—a great option for the whole family to enjoy.

For some TLC, there are dozens of rejuvenating spa getaways like Cranwell and Canyon Ranch.  If you are a Catamount season or day pass holder, you can receive 10% off your treatment at the Spa at Great Barrington or 25% off services at Integrative Massage Therapy (also in Great Barrington).

At just under a 3-hour drive from New York City, Boston and Connecticut, the Berkshires offers an exciting escape not only for your skiing and riding pleasure, but for a well-rounded stay with boundless activities for you to enjoy.  With something for everyone, come play in the beautiful Berkshires where you can live it up, laugh it out, and have a blast!
