Summer Fun for All Ages

By Nancy Macy

When it comes to summer playgrounds, the Berkshires offer fun and excitement for all ages. Whether you’re into outdoor adventure, exploring history, unique shopping and dining, or enjoying cultural events and festivals, we have it all.

Have you been daydreaming about some time away in nature? The great outdoors awaits you in our beautiful mountains, lakes, and streams. Take a hike to a waterfall or summit. Join a guided nature walk or family-friendly event at a Trustees of Reservations property such as Naumkeag and Bartholomew’s Cobble. Paddle and swim in the clear, sparkling waters found throughout the region.

Give your kids the time of their lives.

Location: Bascom Lodge/Mount Greylock

Experience the excitement of zip line tours at Berkshire East, the mountain coaster at Jiminy Peak, the aerial adventure parks at Catamount, and other adrenaline rushes at Ramblewild. Sleep under the stars at one of our campgrounds or wake up to a view of three states from Bascom Lodge atop Mt. Greylock.

Bring the family or meet up with friends for the free In/Out Series Wednesdays-Saturdays at Jacob’s Pillow Dance Festival. Head to one of our many summer festivals, including the Berkshire Arts Festival at Ski Butternut, music events at Mass MoCA, and theater performances (ranging from puppets to Shakespeare) on indoor and outdoor stages.

Help your kids get cultured.

Location: Tanglewood in Lenox

If you love a picnic and live performances, head to Tanglewood. It is the summer home of the Boston Symphony Orchestra and the hosts the famous Popular Artist concert series. They will even have a special Young People’s Concert in August.

You’ll also find a variety of Free Fun Friday events at venues across the Berkshires. Be sure to put a taste of the Berkshires in your picnic basket. Pick your own at small farms such as Ioka Valley Farm in Hancock. Or enjoy fresh, locally produced foods found at our farmer’s markets and charming, small grocers.

So don’t miss your chance to create special memories in the Berkshires this summer—the season goes by fast!
