Shopping Away the Winter Blues

By Darcie Sosa

It’s deep winter now, temperatures are low, and the days are way too short. Enjoy the outdoors and lift your spirits with a day of shopping. You can find many of your favorite clothing brands shopping at the Lee Premium Outlets. In Lenox, you will find stylish choices at Shooz and Casablanca. Try Vlada’s Boutique in Stockbridge or Castle & Main and GB9 in Great Barrington for items you won’t see anywhere else.

Retail therapy is not limited to clothing. As we tend to hunker in more in the chilly months, changing up our living space can invigorate the spirit and bring cheer to a tired room. We suggest getting refreshed with an item or two from design menagerie or MacKimmie Co., both in Lenox. AsiaBarong in Great Barrington has a large collection of sculptures, furniture pieces, crafts, and antiques from all over Asia. They are the leading supplier of Asian art to American museums, movie companies, designers, architects, and collectors nationwide. You are sure to find something there that will need to come home with you.

Something as small as a new dish can make your kitchen feel brighter and lift your spirits. Just the right piece enhances your culinary creations and makes hosting more fun. In Sheffield, you will find Sheffield Pottery, which offers handmade pottery, specialty plates and mugs, and anything you could need to make your own. You can even take a class on site and hone your skills. Bennington Potters just over the border of Massachusetts in Bennington, VT, the funky pottery of Hoffman Pottery in West Stockbridge or the nationally famous Michael Wainwright Studio in Great Barrington are places to pick up beautiful one of a kind dish and serve ware that will make you excited to cook again and awe your dinner guests!

And maybe, just maybe you want to do less shopping for yourself, but more shopping for others? The Berkshires is full of great gift shops. Karen Keenan Gifts & Home in Lee offers unique and beautiful gifts for all occasions and has favorite brands like Vera Bradley, Willow Tree, and body care brands like Crabtree and Evelyn and Thymes. Out of Hand located in Great Barrington have been offering linens, dishware and gifts from various African and Asian countries at affordable pricing since 1972. It is a favorite place if one wants to find beautiful thatched baskets and unique luminaries. Another new and popular gift shop is Dory & Ginger. Located in the hip, boutique Hotel on North in Pittsfield, this stylish gift store offers everything from scarves, baby gifts, candles, unique bar ware, home decor and personal accessories, including the lovely Barr Co beauty line.

The Berkshires often praised for its stunning outdoor beauty and its deep embrace of culture and arts also offers a diverse and fun shopping experience for visitors and locals alike year round!
