Featured Chefs: Franck Tessier & Rachel Portnoy, Chez Nous
Franck, a native France, worked in London at the renowned two-Michelin starred restaurant, Le Gavroche. In 1997 he was sent to The Point, a Relais & Chateau property in Saranac Lake, NY. This is where he met Rachel whose passion for cooking had sent her to London, where she studied at Le Cordon Bleu to become a pastry chef. She then apprenticed for two summers in France and worked in pastry at Lespinasse, Wheatleigh, as well as The Point and Le Gavroche.
They moved together to the Berkshires, which provided a much-needed change of pace. Franck took a position at From Ketchup to Caviar and Rachel opened Cakewalk Bakery. Three years later, they purchased a location at 150 Main Street in Lee which is now Chez Nous a delicious casual French bistro.
Featured Farm: Hilltop Orchards
Hilltop Orchards is an historic apple orchard in the Berkshires and is home to award-winning Furnace Brook Winery. It sits on 200 acres in Richmond, Massachusetts. This year the Vittori family celebrates its 25th year at Hilltop Orchards, where they continue to preserve local farming and have opened their land for apple picking, hiking, cross country skiing and snow-shoeing. You’ll be inspired by the vast open space and fantastic views from the hilltop of the fall foliage in the Berkshires.
