Begin this driving tour in the center of North Adams. Main Street reflects the patriotism and pride of this small city. One block north, on Marshall Street, visitors will enjoy a visit to the Massachusetts Museum of Contemporary Art (MASS MoCA). Once a 13 acre industrial site, this museum provides the space for huge art exhibits, film, dance and music programs and a favorite for many, Kidspace.
Moving on from here, follow Marshall Street south, through the center of North Adams, over the railroad tracks turning right into Western Gateway Heritage State Park. Inside the museum, galleries tell the history of the building of the Hoosac Tunnel, an engineering feat in its time.
Exit to the right from the parking lot onto Furnace Street. This will lead to Notch Road, a
winding road leading to the summit of Mount Greylock, the highest peak in Massachusetts. Take your time to enjoy the view!
Upon descending, follow Rockwell Road to Lanesborough, turning left onto Route 7 South and follow to Summer Street, a left turn in center of Lanesborough. Summer Street passes farm fields and horse farms before it ends in Berkshire Village, at the edge of Route 8.
Turn left onto Route 8 North. Notice the fresh produce stands and popular Ashuwillticook Rail Trail before returning to the center of North Adams at the conclusion of this tour.
